Christy Barnum - Director of St. John Vianney Preschool
Christy Barnum is SJV Preschool's new director and lead teacher of the 5 Day Program for four year olds. She has an Elementary Education degree from the University of Northern Iowa and is currently working toward her Early Childhood degree from Western Illinois University. She previously taught 2nd grade in Muscatine and has been a substitute teacher and paraeducator in the preschool program at Our Lady of Lourdes for 15 years. She is married to Tom and has two children in college.
Bill Donnelly

Bill Donnelly - Deacon

Bill was ordained a Deacon on June 4, 1988, and is a charter member of St. John Vianney parish, which was established in 1967. While formally retired from the deaconate, Bill still assists at Mass, performs baptisms and occasionally leads baptismal preparation classes for new parents. Bill also administers the FOCCUS questionnaire for newly engaged couples preparing for marriage, and assists with burials and funerals. He and his wife Louise have been married since 1958, and have four children, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Karen Emard

Karen Emard - Office Assistant, St. John Vianney Preschool

A native of the Chicago area, Karen graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a degree in accounting. She spent several years working as an internal auditor in Chicago and Orlando, Florida. Karen and her husband, Doug have five children and have been members of the parish since they moved to Bettendorf in 1992. After many years as a stay-at-home mom, Karen joined the preschool staff as the office assistant in 2006. She also helps in the church office in the afternoons.
Colleen Evans

Colleen Evans - Accountant

Colleen has worked at St. John Vianney since August of 2005. She is a graduate of Iowa Wesleyan College with a B.A. in Accounting and has passed the CPA exam. Colleen previously worked as a financial comptroller, but truly loves her work at SJV and the people she works with. She and her husband Troy live in Bettendorf with their five children. She loves to run, cycle, hike and travel.

Father John Hynes - Retired
 
Fr. Hynes attended Sacred Heart Cathedral School and St. Ambrose Academy in Davenport. He graduated from St. Ambrose College in 1951 and completed his theological studies at St. Mary Seminary in Baltimore. He was ordained June 4, 1955, at Sacred Heart Cathedral by Bishop Hayes.
 
Father Hynes served as an assistant at St. Mary in Ottumwa from 1955-65, St. Boniface in Clinton from 1965-67 and St. Joseph in DeWitt from 1967-70. He then served as pastor at St. Joseph in Davenport from 1970-83, St. Ann in Long Grove from 1983-91, St. Paul the Apostle in Davenport from 1991-94 and Our Lady of the River in LeClaire from 1994 until his retirement in 1998.
 
In his retirement, Fr. Hynes has been assisting with Masses at St. John Vianney.
 
Paulette Jones

Paulette Jones - Assistant Teacher, St. John Vianney Preschool

Paulette recently earned her CDA (Child Development Credential) in Early Childhood, ages 3-5, from Scott Community College. She has worked as an Assistant Teacher at SJV Preschool since 2004. Prior to that, Paulette was a Children's Teacher with Community Bible Study in Bettendorf for five years and Assistant Teacher in Kindergarten for six years at St. Patrick Catholic Church in St. Charles, Illinois. She has taught Religious Education classes since 1974 and is currently the Religious Education Secretary at Our Lady of Lourdes parish in Bettendorf in the afternoons. Paulette lives in Bettendorf with her husband Everett and youngest son. The Jones also have seven adult children and 15 grandchildren

Mary Kelly - Office Manager

Mary has worked in the church office since 1996. She has three children and four grandchildren. As Office Manager, Mary is the first point of contact for new parishioners and anyone seeking questions regarding staff and parish groups. Outside of work, Mary enjoys spending time with her friends and grandkids, and attending local events
Eleanor Kiel

Eleanor Kiel - Director of Liturgy and Music

Eleanor joined the St. John Vianney team in January 2010. Prior to her position at SJV, Eleanor was director of Music Ministries at the Church of St. Ann in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. She has a B.A. in Music from the College of St. Benedict in Minnesota, her home state, and a Masters of Music from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Eleanor did her masters in voice performance, but has played piano since she was 3-years-old and taught herself to play the organ "on the job". She has a wide variety of experience within the music field, from solo stage performer in musical theater and opera, to voice teacher, but truly loves her work in the Church, as she feels music is a powerful way to pray and experience the Divine.

Anne Kurth - Assistant Director of Religious Education
Anne grew up in Ottumwa, Iowa and attended St. Patrick's Parish. She and her family joined St. John Vianney in 1994. She is married to Kevin, and has 4 children: Hannah, Alex, Abby and Ellie.  Anne has a B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa in Elementary Education and Early Childhood. She has taught a varietly of levels of children throughout her career (preschool, kindergarten, 1st, 2nd & 4th grade) while moving with Kevin during his residency years. She obtained a M.A. in School Counseling from Western Illinois University and worked in the Bettendorf School District as an Elementary School Counselor. She plays the violin and enjoys singing. She also loves working with children in Young Shepherd's Choir and through the RE program.
 
Father Robert McAleer

Father McAleer attended Charlotte Elementary and St. Joseph's High School in DeWitt, Iowa. He obtained a B.A. in 1967 from St. Ambrose University in Davenport. He attended Mt. St. Bernard's in Dubuque, Iowa and St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota for his seminary education. Father then attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated with a M.A. in Modern Languages in 1971.

 

He was ordained on May 29, 1971 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport and recently celebrated his 40th Ordination Anniversary at St. John Vianney Church.

 

He has served in many places throughout his career. He served at St. Mary's in West Point from 1971-74, St. Mary's in Augusta and Notre Dame High School from 1975-76. He then served at St. Mary's in Fort Madison from 1976-78, St. Elizabeth's in Harper from 1978-84, SS. Peter & Paul in Clear Creek from 1980-84, St. Mary's & St. Joseph's in Fort Madison from 1984-1999. He has been at St. John Vianney since 1999 and plans to retire at this parish.

Nancy McBride

Nancy McBride - Minister of Pastoral Care

As Minister of Pastoral Care, Nancy assists Fr. McAleer with the pastoral care needs of St. John Vianney, including home and hospital visits and volunteers, grief and caregiver support groups, befrienders and the prayer shawl ministry. Nancy has completed a five-year Ministry Formation program through the Davenport Diocese. Raised in Catholic schools in Chicago, Nancy is a retired high school math teacher, including 20 years at Bettendorf High School. She is married to John and they have two married children and two grandchildren. Nancy enjoys traveling, meeting new people, family adventures, and tutoring math students in her home.

Jean Moran - Assistant Teacher, St. John Vianney Preschool
Jean Moran is a new member of the preschool teaching team assisting in the 2 Day program for 3 year olds. She is married to Matt and their two children have attended SJV Preschool where she has also served as a substitute teacher. Jean graduated from Marycrest University with a degree in Elementary Education and also has reading and coaching endorsements. Prior to becoming a full time mother she had a successful business career and she continues to be an active community volunteer serving on several non-profit boards and committees.

Pat Roche- Assistant Teacher, St. John Vianney Preschool

Pat has worked at St. John's preschool as teacher assistant since the fall of 2006. In 1989 she began her career at Holy Family Teddy Bear Club in Davenport where she worked as both lead teacher and teacher assistant in the four year old classroom. During that time she attained her CDA credential which she has held since November of l996. She and her husband John live in Davenport and enjoy time spent with their four adult children and four grandchildren. Pat considers her position in preschool a "joyful blessing!"


Jan Stevenson - Director of Youth Ministry

Jan joined the SJV team in 1997. Jan us responsible for grades 7-12 along with Confirmation and the Retreat Team. Jan and her husband Guy have parishioners at SJV since 1986. They have three married children and five children.
Nicky Stevenson

Nicky Stevenson - Director of Religious Education

Nicky is a 1998 graduate of the University of Iowa with a BA in Elementary Education and a specialization in Early Childhood. She has taught students of varying abilities, across many grade levels and backgrounds. Nicky has been the Religious Education Director for Preschool-Grade 6 since 2003, and also coordinates preparation for the sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation and First Communion. She lives in Bettendorf with her husband Jeremy and their three children.
