What types of musicians are needed for the liturgy and other functions?

Cantors, soloists, instrumentalists, and pianists are welcome.


What choirs are available for various age ranges?

  • Young Shepherds (youth choir) - grades 2-6
  • Youth Band (singers and instrumentalists) - grades 7-12
  • Celebration Ringers (bell choir)
  • Exultate Choir (adult choir)
  • Resurrection Choir (adult funeral choir)


When does the youth choir rehearse and serve?

Young Shepherds rehearse Wednesdays, from 5:30-6:15 p.m., September through May. They sing once a month, usually at the 9:00 a.m. Mass, and for the 4 p.m. Children's Christmas Eve Mass.


 

When does the youth band rehearse and serve?

Youth Band rehearses once a month, on a Sunday from noon-1:00 p.m. They also rehearse for an hour before the Mass in which they serve, usually the 11:00 a.m. Mass and the 4:30 p.m. Mass.


When does the bell choir rehearse and serve?

The Celebration Ringers rehearse Tuesdays, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., September through May. They ring once a month, usually at the 11:00 a.m. Mass, and occasionally, the 4:30 p.m. Mass, and at Easter and Christmas Masses.


When does the adult choir rehearse and serve?

The Exultate Choir rehearses Tuesdays, from 7:00-8:30 p.m., September through May. They sing weekly, usually at the 9:00 a.m. Mass, and occasionally at the 11:00 a.m. Mass. They also sing for all Holy Week liturgies, the Easter Vigil, Confirmation, and the Christmas Eve 10:00 p.m. Mass.


What is the funeral choir and when do they serve?

The Resurrection Choir supports the congregational singing and prayers at funeral liturgies of St. John Vianney parish members. When a member dies, the Resurrection Choir is called to serve; they arrive 15-30 minutes ahead of the service, to prepare and rehearse music for the liturgy.


Are there other musical activities available for school-aged children?

The Religious Education program for grade-schoolers often presents a Christmas pageant that involves singing. High school students proficient in vocal music are called upon to cantor or sing in the Youth Band. High school students proficient in instrumental music are called upon to support congregational singing, perform solo pieces, or join the Youth Band.
